What is going on with Factions/Civilian Management?

📋 What is going on with Factions/Civilian Management?
We are implementing a better core to prevent performance/lag issues when factions are added. Faction work will resume in 1.4.

Features Planned for Factions/Civilian Management:

  • Implement Pierce Police Faction
  • Implement Natalie’s Faction
  • Dynamic Civilian Factions
  • Revamp ROE/Policy screen

Faction Differences

🛡️ What are the differences between the factions?

  • Captain Pierce’s Faction: Secures zones to create a buffer, vassals nearby civilian groups, and focuses on maintaining safe zones.
  • Natalie’s Faction: Uses guerrilla tactics like suicide attacks, civilian shields, and ambushes, leaving chaos in her wake.

Special Abilities & Hero Units

💥 Are you adding special abilities or Hero units to factions?
Yes! Natalie and Pierce will be super units like Winters. Killing them causes 80% of their faction’s units to disband over 20 minutes, significantly weakening them.

Consequences of Actions

⚠️ Why wouldn’t I just kill Pierce or Natalie outright?
Your actions will have consequences. For example, killing Pierce might weaken his faction, but civilians may retaliate, sparking an insurgency or guerrilla warfare.

Leader Protection & Counterplay

🛡️ How will they protect their leaders? Won’t cloaking be OP?
Guard towers reveal cloaked units. Leaders adapt over time, and factions like Natalie’s may use ambush tactics, creating thermal glitches in your drone’s view.

Cover System

🏗️ How will Cover work? Are you adding a system for it?
In version 1.4, we’re implementing a cover system similar to Company of Heroes. Units can use cover for defense, while infected will not.

Multiplayer Plans

🌐 Is this game multiplayer?
Currently single-player, but multiplayer is planned for 2024–2025.

Gameplay Questions

👀 How do I exit Third Person?
Press B. Select the operator and press B again for First Person.

🧬 How do I kill Patient Zero?
Unlock Shredder Rounds from the Command Center after collecting enough DNA.

🏕️ How do I increase max population?
Capture territory (Faction Mode) or build garrison tents (Non-Faction Mode).

Unit Cap & Performance

💡 Why can’t I have more than 120 units?
The current limit helps test performance and mechanics while solving bugs.

Civilian Infections

🔬 How can I tell if a civilian is infected?
Use Scientist Scanner weapons or Detection Towers.

🧟 Why do civilians keep turning into zombies?
They may be infected or angry due to lack of help. Angry civilians currently share zombie animations.

Leviathan (Giant Worm)

🐉 What’s the deal with the giant worm?
The Leviathan appears mid-to-late game as a powerful enemy. Build restrictors around key areas to keep it away. It may retreat when injured.

Faction Behavior

🤔 Why don’t the factions do much? Or why are they taking over everything?
We are optimizing performance to enhance faction AI. Expect some imperfect behaviors during this phase.

Updates & Localizations

🔧 When is the next update?
The game is in Early Access, and we’ll update it when ready. Opt into the Experimental branch to help test.

🌍 How often do you update localizations?
Quarterly, as translations are costly. Some updates may lack full translations initially.

Seasonal Events

🎃 How do I turn off seasonal events?
Go to Options > Game > Seasonal Event. Note: Some effects won’t toggle immediately (e.g., decorative pumpkins).
